After visiting the beaches
and monuments of Conil, what better than
to taste the flavoursome local cuisine.
With it being a village based on farming
and fishing, it has created its own gastronomy;
in fact Conil is famous for its excellent
crops.
The numerous bars and restaurants which
people this town make it an ideal place
to taste delicious fish accompanied by the
best wines in the area. Dishes such as oven-cooked
sea bream, onion-stuffed tuna, stuffed squid,
rice with cabbage, peas and oyster plants,
are samples of their cuisine.
The exquisite cured meats, such as black
pudding, pork rinds, coloured lard and their
famous Easter confectionery, cakes and sponges.
The “Tuna Week” merits special mention,
gastronomic route, which is held around
the middle of June in the most notable restaurants
of Conil to taste dishes in which fresh
tuna is the star ingredient, “black foot
of the sea”, product of legendary tuna fish
nets (fishing art used by the Phoenicians
more than 3.000 years ago), one of which
is drawn in Conil, between February and
May.
